Our philosophy

Elevation Weightlifting is a non-profit weightlifting club. Our mission is to build a community of athletes who are committed to bettering themselves through sport.

Elevation Weightlifting fills a gap in athletes’ lives that they didn’t know they had. The Club is a supportive family that provides guidance and encouragement for weightlifters to be the best athletes they can be.

We welcome recreational lifters and also provide competitive opportunities from the club level all the way to national-level events.

what is weightlifting?

The sport of weightlifting consists of two lifts: the snatch and the clean & jerk. In the snatch, the weightlifter lifts the barbell from the floor to overhead in a single movement. In the clean & jerk, the weightlifter lifts the barbell from the floor to the shoulders (the clean) and then from the shoulders to overhead (the jerk).

In a competition, each weightlifter gets three attempts in the snatch and three attempts in the clean & jerk. The weight of the best of each lift is added to create the lifter’s total, and the lifter with the best total wins. Lifters compete in their age group, gender, and weight class.

The Olympic lifts and their variations are also excellent supplementary training for athletes of other sports including rugby, cricket, and netball. Weightlifting training is useful for improving athletes’ explosiveness, strength, mobility, and injury prevention.
